What we break out

Concrete Demolition Jobs Across Wollongong

Old Driveways, Patios and Paths

Clearing the way for a fresh pour, new landscaping or an extension? We break up and remove tired driveways, carport slabs, patios and paths. Usually we begin at the back of the block and work out to the street, loading trucks as we go, and we keep access to your front door wherever possible.

Tight Spots, Sheds and Garages

Renovating, extending or replacing an old shed or garage floor? Where machines can't fit, we use small breakers and hand tools to work carefully around footings, posts and plumbing, then barrow the broken concrete out to the skip or truck.

Pool Removal and Backfill

An in-ground pool you never use anymore? We drain it, crack the floor so water can soak away, and take out part or all of the shell depending on what's going there next. The hole is then backfilled and compacted in layers so it's ready for lawn, gardens or a shed slab.

Commercial Slab Strip-Outs

Floor slabs, plinths, footings and old hardstands removed from shops, warehouses and redevelopment sites. We break and load to suit your builder's schedule, keep exclusion zones in place the whole time, and saw slabs into liftable blocks where noise and vibration have to be kept down.

Walls, Steps and Old Footings

We break out and cart away concrete retaining walls, front steps, clothesline bases and garden edging, including well-reinforced ones. On sloping Illawarra blocks, if a wall is still holding back soil we take it down bit by bit and talk through temporary support so terraces and level changes don't slump.

Storm Damage Clean-Ups

An East Coast Low, a flash flood or a fallen tree can leave slabs and paths cracked or washed out underneath. We remove the damaged concrete so repair work can begin, coordinating with your builder or insurance assessor and keeping anything still sound where it is.

Getting started

Booking Concrete Demolition in Wollongong Is Simple

An old slab, cracked driveway or forgotten footing usually has to come out before anything new can go in. These steps help our crew understand the job so we can plan the break-out properly.

  • Film a quick walk-through: Take your phone around the site, recording the concrete, the access in and any tight corners, and send the clip to us.
  • Show us what has to be protected: Flag any pipes, trees, fences or nearby buildings that must stay untouched, so we can match the machine and method to the site.
  • Mention the finish you need: Want rubble hauled away and the ground graded for the next trade? Tell us and it goes into the quote.

Breaking out a slab on a soggy Illawarra block brings mud and runoff issues, so we plan around the weather and keep dirty water contained on site. Where we can, your old concrete is sent for recycling rather than dumped. Send your details through the form and we'll prepare a free demolition quote.

Why pick our crew

How Our Wollongong Demolition Crew Works

Noisy Work Kept To Sensible Hours

There's no quiet way to break concrete, so the loudest work happens during reasonable daytime hours, and we'll suggest letting the neighbours know the dates ahead of time. On tightly packed streets, a quick word beforehand keeps goodwill intact.

Underground Services Checked

Water, power, communications, sewer and irrigation lines often run beneath old slabs. We lodge a Before You Dig Australia request and walk the site ourselves, because hitting a hidden service can turn a simple break-out into an expensive repair bill.

Protecting What's Staying

Heavy breaking right next to your house, pool, retaining walls or a neighbour's slab can do damage that's costly to put right. Close to anything delicate, we drop down to a lighter breaker or saw the concrete into sections and lift them out instead.

Clear Pricing On Disposal

Broken concrete is heavy and takes up a lot of room, and carting it isn't free. We work out the likely tonnage at quote time, book trucks and tip or recycler drop-offs, and show disposal as its own line so there are no surprises later.

Saw-Cut Edges Before Breaking

Where new concrete will meet concrete that's staying, we saw the boundary first and only then start breaking. That gives your next pour a solid, straight face to butt up to, rather than a crumbly ragged edge prone to cracking later on.

Steel and Concrete Sent For Recycling

Reo bar and mesh are pulled from the rubble and sent off as scrap metal, while clean concrete goes to be crushed for reuse. Separating loads this way keeps material out of landfill and can trim the disposal part of your bill.

FAQs

Concrete Demolition FAQs

Things Wollongong owners want to know before a break-out, from pricing and partial replacements to protecting gardens, rubble disposal and job timeframes.

Every site is different, so we price each job once we've seen it. The biggest variables are slab thickness, the amount of steel inside, whether an excavator can reach it and how many truckloads of rubble it will produce. An unreinforced garden path comes up fast. A thick, heavily reinforced slab at the bottom of a steep Wollongong driveway, or down a narrow side passage where only small machines or hand breakers fit, takes a lot more effort. Truck travel and tip or recycling fees also add to the total, which is why breaking, loading and disposal each appear separately on your quote.

It is, and it's often the best value. We saw around the damaged area, break out that panel alone and leave the sound concrete untouched, which means less demolition, less carting and a smaller pour to pay for. Keep in mind that the new section will stand out at first, since fresh concrete is lighter than an aged slab and takes a while to tone down, and the joint will always show. If the original failure came from soft ground, tree roots or a washed-out base, we address that as well, otherwise the new panel may crack or sink for the same reason.

They're part of the plan from the start. The usual risks are machinery rutting soft or wet ground, flying concrete chips hitting fences and windows, and vibration near walls, pools and retaining structures. We agree on an access path with you beforehand, cover or fence off garden beds and lay ground mats where tracks have to cross the lawn. When the soil is soft, the yard is wet or room is limited, we bring in smaller machines, and on tight sites we'll often break the edges by hand while the excavator works the centre. If some disturbance can't be avoided, you'll hear about it in the quote rather than after the fact.

We break it down into pieces that fit on a truck and haul it away. Clean rubble goes to a recycling yard whenever possible, where it's crushed into aggregate for road base, driveways and backfill. That's normally cheaper than landfill and puts the material back to use. Loads contaminated with soil, timber or general rubbish can be refused or charged at a higher rate, so we keep the concrete separate as we work. Older sheds, garages, fences and eaves on Illawarra homes from the fibro era may contain asbestos, so have anything like that assessed by an appropriately licensed professional before breaking starts.

Most residential break-outs take one to two days of machine work, plus time for loading and carting. Jobs run longer with heavy steel, very thick slabs, access so tight we have to break by hand, sandstone, shale or hard fill to dig through when lowering levels, or services that need slow, careful work around them. A run of heavy rain can hold things up too, as machinery tears up soaked ground and loaded trucks bog on a wet block. You'll get a realistic timeframe with your quote, and if new concrete is going down afterwards, we schedule it to follow straight on so your yard isn't torn up for any longer than necessary.
